A chance meeting with a local knitting group has inspired Funeral Arranger Donna Young to set up her own community knitting meet-up using James & Thomas Funeral Directors in New Haw as the venue.
“I was invited to meet Pins & Needles – a group of people who gather to knit for charity in Byfleet Library.
“They showed me all the beautiful things they knit including miniature Moses baskets for early still born babies, hats, teddies, blankets plus poppies for the British Legion – and I really wanted to help.”
As a starting point Donna recruited help from all other James & Thomas branches plus Woking Funeral Service to promote Pins & Needles and ask for donations of materials by displaying posters in branches. She also started to knit herself: “I’m currently in the process of knitting a Twiddlemitt, which are mittens with a variety of items attached that are used to help dementia sufferers.”
Donna admired the great work the group was doing and enjoyed knitting so much that she decided to go one step further and setup her own knitting community in branch: “Pins & Needles are giving me lots of encouragement and supporting me by supplying knitting patterns.
“I think this will be a great way not only to go further in supporting local charities, but also for members of the local community to engage with James & Thomas.”
